Summer Fun

So far we're having a great summer!  We still have some really fun things to look forward to

which I hope to post about before December.

For the last two month's we've gone to the Home Depot kid's workshop

where Adelyn gets to make a small project from a kit. 

She loved using the hammer and putting the stickers on the truck.

4th of July Weekend at the Dundalk Heritage Fair.  Don't be jealous of the carnival OR the fact that it was located in Dundalk!  I still can't believe I let my child get on a carnival ride... it was her first one.  I think they were going about 2 mph so what's the worst that could happen?  

The people watching never disappoints and my dad even made up a Scavenger Hunt type list of hairstyles, clothing, etc. to find as we were walking around.

I still can't believe my baby is 3 years old!  How did this happen?! 

Kyle and I watched some baby videos on her birthday and it was

hard to believe it was 3 years ago that she was born.

Her Nana got this cowgirl hat and painted it red and found those adorable red cowgirl boots... 

just like Jessie!  Adelyn loves pretending to be Jessie and walks around saying,

"Yee-haw!" and "Giddy-up Bullseye!" while waving the hat over her head.

Another favorite gift from the day was this Rapunzel wig.  She spent most of the day wearing it and staring at herself in any mirror she could find.  It was a hit!

Let's just wrap up the last couple of months in one post, shall we?  I always regret not taking more pictures, ugh!  We are jumping into the 21st century and getting these new fangled 'smart phones' everyone already has so maybe that will mean more accessible picture taking... let's hope anyway.  (We're really not that fancy and I'm sure I won't have the patience to learn how to fully use it but our cell phone plan is up and Mr. Deal-Finder has done it yet again, they were $.02 with free activation!)

Kyle and I have gone to Opening Day for the Orioles for the last several years and Adelyn has joined the fun since she was born.  She loves yelling, "Charge", "Let's go O's" and doing the wave.  

This year some yahoo ran onto the field towards the beginning of the game, dressed in a cape and shorts and was finally taken down by the police.  Adelyn was very confused about why he was 'nakey' and is still bringing it up sometimes.

Maine Moose... a ridiculously overdue post

Instead of going on and on about how I can't believe it has taken 3 months to post about a trip I took in JANUARY, I'll just get to the point.

My friend Stacy and I planned a trip to go visit our friend, Kim in Maine.  Kim is from ME but moved to MD a few years ago for work which is when we became good friends.  She moved back to ME last fall to be closer to family and we missed her!  Plus I had never been to ME so it was a great excuse.

Insert here the agonizing mom guilt of leaving my 2 1/2 year old with her daddy for a long weekend.  And add to that the fact that we had been potty training said 2 1/2 year old for less than one week which would leave Daddy (forever to be known as SuperDad) with the daunting task of keeping up with this potty training.  I had never left both of them overnight (it has only been Kyle and I going away for a weekend leaving Adelyn with her grandparents, or  Kyle going away for a boy's weekend, but never me the one leaving them) although I knew Kyle was more than capable of taking care of Adelyn, I just knew I would miss them so much. 

Kyle talked me into going, reiterating the fact (many times) that they would be fine and told me to have fun!

It took a while for it to sync in that I really didn't have ANY responsibilities for the weekend and to actually relax, and then it was such a great weekend!  They were great girls to spend the weekend with since we all have similar personalities and go with the flow in these types of situations.  I slept in until EIGHT a couple of mornings which was probably the highlight of the trip (ok, not really, but it was pretty great!). 

Let me also mention it is COLD in Maine, like I have never feld cold before.  Let's just say I literally wore legwarmers... yes you heard me, legwarmers!  It was nice to see snow everywhere since we didn't get much in MD (except the weekend we were in ME of course).

I am NOT a dog person but she is just so HUGE and loveable so I allowed it. 

I'm sure you are dying to know how the potty training went... FABULOUSLY!  It doesn't hurt that Adelyn was ready from the start and that she's got such a great Daddy!  I missed them like crazy but I've convinced myself I shouldn't feel guilty... or selfish (ok, still trying convince myself).

Until Next Year

I'm sad to say the Christmas season is over with all of the decorations and ornaments packed away, all the gifts have been wrapped and unwrapped, no more Christmas songs on the radio.  However, we do still have the nearly dead evergreen in our living room and 3/4 of it's needles on the floor, but we will say goodbye to that tomorrow. 

We had a great Christmas!  Lots of fun and even some surprises.  I had big plans at the beginning of the month to make some new traditions, give plenty of service to others and focus my little one on the real reason we celebrate Christmas...

Ok, this one probably needs a little explanation...

it is a tradition my Grandmother passed down.  We have a cake with a little nativity scene on the top, light some candles and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas Eve.  That still probably doesn't clear things up but what can I say? It's tradition.

Adelyn was so excited to see Santa!  She ran up to him and sat right on his lap which really surprised me since she'd been saying for days she didn't want to sit on his lap.  She told him she wanted a Barbie and a train set for Christmas.  Then, as we were leaving she told Santa she really wanted a new winter coat and hat for Christmas... really?!  Way to sound like a poor orphan girl and make your parents sound terrible.  I was sure to say loud enough for everyone to hear, "Come on Addie, let's get your NEW coat and hat on."  Where does she come up with this stuff??

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

I love this time of year- the days and weeks from Thanksgiving to New Year's.  I love that there is no other time during the year that makes you feel like Christmastime does.  I love our family traditions and the new traditions our little family has started.  I love watching Adelyn light up everytime we pass a house decorated with lights and shout, "Christmas!".  I love that she helped decorate the tree this year, and most of all that she is old enough to start learning why we really celebrate Christmas.

I decorated earlier than I usually do this year but it still didn't feel like Christmas until after Thanksgiving. 

We tried a new tree farm this year, picked out our tree, Kyle cut it down and we drove it home.

Adelyn loved putting the gingerbread house together.  It's no surprise that some candies went missing during the construction.  I was surprised at how into the decorating she was... Why am I shocked?  She's 2 and there is candy involved!

I can't wait for all of the other fun things we have planned in the upcoming weeks!  And here's hoping I won't be a blog slacker and will post about it in a timely fashion.
